As I told before, my plan is to go to Scandinavia. At first I had kinda vague plans but my plans aren’t vague anymore! I’m planning to walk a part of the E1 Long Distance hike. As you can read on the Wikipedia page, The E paths are long distance hikes in Europe, there are 12 of them. I’m planning to walk a part of the E1. Starting in Nordkapp and going to Hamburg.
The first (logical) question that I get from people is: How far is it? It’s about 4200 kilometres (2600 miles). Then there is a pause. I can see in their eyes they have more questions so I begin to talk about it. My plan is to walk about 20 kilometers (13,5 miles) a day. Yes, you can do more then this in a day, but I don’t want to rush it. If there is a place where I want to stay more then 1 day, or a week. I want to do this. For me it is about the journey, not how fast I can do it.
I’ve been looking at the weather in Scandinavia and the best time to start in Nordkapp is in June. The summer starts in June and it’s for 3 months. It’s not gonna be 25 degrees at the swimming pool, but you won’t freeze your ass off. Weatherspark.com is a good site to check for the weather. You can see the averages for certain months. I think it is a good tool to find out which weather you will encounter so you can adjust your gear to it. One tip, always go for a bit warmer gear then you have to! If the weather goes bad, you are still covered.
I’ve found some people who have walked it, or walking it right now. The blog predictablylost.com is my favorite until now. He started in June ’16 and is still going strong! Also, GosHikes.nl has just started from the Nordkapp.
