Yes, there are a lot of articles online about getting fit for hiking and much more about getting fit in general. I’m not the fittest man you will ever see. 198 cm tall and a BMI that is 27 (which is at least 2 points too high). My travel plans is not a race of somekind. Yes, I want to get Somewhere, but I really don’t mind if it takes a week longer then other people.
When you google for getting fit you’ll get a lot of hits how to do that in just 10 minutes of your times each day! I don’t believe in this. In general, getting into shape is a hard thing to do. The best way to do this in my opinion is to find a sport/activity that you like to do, something that you want to do.
For me this is mountainbiking. I’ve done that before and since a couple of months I’ve been riding again. The weather here in The Netherlands is getting colder but I’m still riding. I think it’s great! I’m outside in a forrest riding around in the mud, going up and down in the fresh air. Yes, it can be cold but you have to dress for it and take a long hot shower afterwards.
With mountainbiking I’m training my legs for the most but also every other muscle. Yesterday I went out for a 26 km trip, it was 1 degree but with a bit of sunshine. I’m recording my trips with Strava, take a look at it.
