Last saturday I got myself a new backpack! The Fjallraven Greenland Top Large, which means it is a 30 litre pack. I was searching for a backpack that I can use all day, every day. So it needs to be:
- Good quality
- Space for my 14 inch laptop without a sleeve with good protection, also in the bottom of the pack
- Enough room for what I carry to the office and room for my groceries.
- Good enough for a day hike, or an overnighter in the summer.
- The looks, it shouldn’t look like an outdoor pack, should be normal at the office
A lot of packs does some of these but not a lot of packs does everything. My holy grail is the Goruck GR1. The only slight disadvantage of this pack is the weight but for the rest it is a perfect pack. The big disadvantage is that I live in The Netherlands and it is so expensive to get a pack like that here. So that one is for the future.
After a long search I found that the Fjallraven Greenland Top Large fills all my requirements so last saturday I bought it and it was the right time to buy this pack! Last saturday night it was snowing here and at first light I woke up, saw the snow, grabbed my gear in the pack and went out for a 20 km hike!
First some specs of the pack. It is 30 litres, space for a laptop, at the top a small pocket for a mobile phone or some pens, at both sides place for bottles and at the front a big A4 like format pocket.
The hike went pretty good! It was beautiful with all the snow and the pack was comfortable. It doesn’t have a chest strap or a waist belt so I was a bit worried how comfortable it would be in a normal day hike like this. In one word, it was good. The pack doesn’t feel so snug to your back but you don’t have the feeling that the pack can slip off your shoulders at any moment. Because the pack isn’t snug to your back it will get lot’s of fresh air so I didn’t got a sweaty backside.
I brought the pack to work. obviously everything could go in it. On my bicycle it was pretty easy on my back and people didn’t look at me when carrying it in.
I will use this pack probably 6 days per week. In probably 6 months I will write a full review of the Fjallraven Greenland Top Large.
