I am a fan of Damien Rice. The last time he was in The Netherlands he was performing at Paleis Soestdijk and I was there! In April tickets came available for Damien Rice in Caprera, in an open air theatre which sounds pretty good!
To make an adventure of it I decided to take my tent and backpack with me in the train. I’ve found a campsite in the dunes, close to the sea so what could go wrong? Well, the weather! After 45 minutes the concert got cancelled unfortnately. Here is in 3 minutes my adventure:
Luckily when I arrived at the campsite it was still dry so I could setup my tent without too much hassle. I also brought a small pack with me and after setting up the tent I went to the coast with my rainsuit. When I was having dinner, the weather got worse and worse. After checking the weather on my phone I realized that it wouldn’t get dry this evening.
After dinner I put on the rain suit and went to my bike to go to the concert and it was already raining pretty hard! Standing in line to get in, it took about 45 minutes to get in! Which was pretty crazy in this weather. I really don’t understand why it can take so long.
The rain jacket I had on was a good one so no problems here but my rain pants were just normal pants from the HEMA, which was a mistake. After an hour of hard rain, the water just went through the rain pants which resulted in soaked pants during the concert.
After 45 minutes they announced the concert was cancelled. They were explaining why (due to the weather) but the only thought that I had after standing for 45 minutes in the line was to get the hell out of there! I still had a 7 km biking trip back to the campsite. During the bike ride it was raining so hard I hardly couldn’t sea anything! Luckily I had my head lamp with me. With that on I could see again.
The neighbours at the campsite were sleeping in the car! there was a lot of water in the tent and it was rocking around in the wind. I took my wet clothes of outside in the rain and as fast as I could I went into my tent where it was dry. Earlier in the day I bought a small bottle of whisky which was a good decision! After half an hour in the sleeping bag I fell asleep.
The next morning it rained a bit but when it got dry I went out and broke down my tent and got the hell out of there, back to the train to Nijmegen. The weather was sunny in Nijmegen so it was easy to dry my gear out and clean my clothes.
The weather gave a twist to the concert but it was still a nice adventure!
