After spending a week in Lisbon, I needed some quiet time in a smaller place. Looking at the map, Coimbra is right between Lisbon and Porto. Coimbra is a student city but the university isn’t open yet, so it was a quiet place. I met up with a woman here from couchsurfing. We’ve met before in Lisbon and found out we had the same plan.
She basicly did the same thing, quitting to go traveling. She worked in a big hotel and she was used to dealing with people who stay for a long time. It was nice to hear how they deal with people like me 🙂
The hostel I was staying was very pretty. They also had private rooms so it was a combination between a hotel and a hostel. MmThe breakfast was very good! The staff was helpful and the other guests where nice.
Coimbra has got some nice history and some beautiful architecture. I had one full day in Coimbra and we decided to go for a swim in the river. There weren’t a lot of people around, which was nice. After about 2 hours I got stung by an insect in my arm. It really did hurt and after 15 minutes I felt a bit strange, so I thought, let’s go for some lunch and maybe that will cure it. While I was walking I felt myself getting warm and my arm was getting thicker. So we decided to go to the farmacy instead 🙂 I had an allergic reaction to the bite and got some tablets and a cream. It was nice not to be alone in the situation so thank you for your company Dominique!
After this I went back to my hostel and slept a couple of hours. In the evening I felt fine again and we went for dinner. This was a nice place! We had some wine, a soup and a main course for less then 10 euro’s a person.
The next day I packed my bag and went to the train station to go to Porto.
