I was lucky enough to find a place to put up my tent in the evening of day 8. Half an hour later it started raining and it rained all night long. On the morning of day 9 my tent was still wet when I packed it up. It was cold and it rained of and on.
I saw on the map that I was getting higher. The highest was around 400 metres. The wind was hard and the rain was almost changed into snow. There wasn’t a good place to rest so mostly I was walking. Had a break behind a road sign once.
After 6 hours of walking I was getting lower again, looking for a place to setup my tent. It was hard finding a flat spot and when it was flat, there was so much water on it, it felt like a swamp. After walking about 37 km I encountered a man and a woman that I met 2 days ago cycling. They were with a car and they were kind enough to drop me in the city centre close to a hotel.
This is when the bingo started, first hotel, fully booked, second hotel, also full. Here I decided to get a cab to bring me to the next one, which was also full. The cab driver started calling around. There was 1 place that had a cabin available so he took me there. When I arrived, my feet where so painfull so I was glad I had a bed. Also getting my gear to let it dry out. At this moment I realized I left my trekking poles at hotel number 2.
Luckily goshikes.nl is started his thru hike back up again and he will pick up the poles and then we will meet up to get to Masi together.
Around 4 in the afternoon we met up and took the taxi together to Masi, which was very expensive! We had a drink and the option was there to stay the night in a cabin. We looked at our surroundings and it was all green! So we decided to go for it. It’s a couple of days to Kautokeino on low lands so we should be fine.
We hiked about 7.5 km and made camp at a lake. After yesterday, this was a good day with a good start of the evening. The terrain is very wet in some places but thats allright.
