After finishing moving my stuff out of my appartment, there is a lot I need to prepare for my upcoming trip. From this moment I’ve got a little more then a month to make my preparations as best as I can. So what is there to do?
There is one subject I haven’t prepared that much, until now and that is food. The thing with food is, it can be very heavy and there are sections in the trail that I need to carry food for multiple days. So you want your food as light as possible. This means that everything you take has to be high calorie food. Yes, you can fill up your pack with Snicker bars, but it’s better to eat different food. My main rule is that 100 grams of food needs to have at least 300/330 calories in it. I’ve got some plans for it and in the upcoming weekend I’ll be creating a number of dishes.
One subject that haven’t gone too well the last month or so is getting fit. With working and moving and so on, I haven’t been training a lot, but this will change! I’m gonna walk to and from my work back home again, every working day. This is 12 km per day and I wil also go out in the weekend.
Another subject that I’ve been working a lot on the last couple of months is my gear list. I need to get some gear and I’m also looking to go lighter without breaking the bank. My goal for the base weight was 8 kg, but now I think I’m not gonna get there. I will be happy with 8,5 kg. It’s lightweight, but not ultra light. I made this decision quite some time ago. My main reason for this is that I’m not experienced enough in my opinion to go ultra light. So I’ve got a double walled tent and a nice and warm mummy to sleep in.
The last main thing I can think of now is that I want to get to know the route better. I’ve got detailed Excel and GPX files, but I want to know more about the land that I’ll be traveling, which terrain will be harder and get more information about the villages and shops I’m going to. Also, I want to learn a bit Norwegian. Enough to talk to people and ask for something in the shops.
I’m pretty sure I forgot something important. If you have tips for me, please leave a comment or contact me via E-mail.
