When I look back 4 months, I had some gear but I was slowly finding out that the gear I got, wasn’t the best for the E1 Long distance trip. The most important thing is that is has to be light and it has to be good quality. The disadvantage is that gear like this is expensive. So I have only been looking at gear what is in sale. There is always the possibility to buy the gear that I want for the full price.
I’ve bought a new tent! I had a simple tent from Sierra Designs but after some research and talking to people with more knowledge I quickly discovered that the SD tent wasn’t the best for this trip. After some research and not wanting to spend too much, I bought a MSR Hubba Hubba NX tent. It is a lightweight (1,7 KG) two person self standing tent. I got it with about 30 percent discount so I was happy.
After a test in the beginning of october I discovered that my sleeping bag was not gonna be warm enough for the E1 trip. After a lot of research I found the sleeping bag that I wanted, a Mountain Equipment Helium 800, the XL version for me. It is a down bag comfort temperature is -4 and the comfor limit is -11. It only weights about 1,4 KG for the XL version. I got this with about 25 percent discount.
Personally I like merino wool a lot for the base layer, but it is quite expensive. Luckily an outdoor shop had Icebreaker clothing on sale for at least 40 percent off! So I got 2 shirts, a long baselayer for my legs and a chute. They feel great and they are very warm.
i only need two big ticket items, a hardshell jacket and also hardshell pants. It will rain a lot so I want good products for it. Further I need a bunch of small stuff, a powerbank, headlamp and so on.
In a couple of weeks I will do my first test run with my new gear! I will keep you up-to-date with my experiences!
